Among the many unique benefits of choosing our Saildrive solution, you’ll enjoy high efficiency under power, integrated water intake, and patented electrical isolation of the drive and propeller that minimizes the risk of corrosion. The Saildrive oil can also be changed from inside the boat. And a quick, convenient installation and easily accessible parts mean you can focus even more time on the water.
Our Saildrive engines pack in fast fuel bleeding, freshwater cooling, and a durable multi V-belt with a user-friendly tensioner. A rigid engine block means low noise, and engine suspension with a large damping volume further increases comfort on board. A crash absorber will keep your engine safely in place in the event of an impact.
With our highly efficient saildrive engine, drive, and propeller package, you can experience responsive and powerful maneuvering. The system's three-point suspended mounting is designed to minimize noise and vibrations, with no need for alignment. Our folding propellers reduce drag and enhance power, ensuring reliable functionality through a dependable conical teeth mechanism. And the hydrodynamically optimized design of the saildrive offers low drag while sailing.

Saildrive technology
Our D-series engines deliver high torque at low rpm. That means plenty of power and a quick response to your commands. We’re proud to provide the power that drives some of the most powerful alternators in the industry with the same technology.
Today’s sailboats depend on electricity. All our D-series engines are equipped with high-capacity charging. The 115A alternator has a built-in charging sensor that gives correct battery charging voltage and all models can have an extra engine-mounted alternator.
A Volvo Penta folding propeller provides you with less drag under sail compared with a fixed propeller. The elliptical profile of the propellers also enables low noise and minimal vibrations. The elliptical blades give efficient thrust, even in reverse, and the unique blade profile provides safe opening when reversing.
Volvo Penta engines have alternators that are perfectly matched to the torque of your engine, to provide extra charging without losing maneuvering power. You can choose to upgrade with an extra alternator, for high-capacity charging for 12V and 24V systems.
With automatic pre-heating and the relay-activated starter solenoid, starts are reliable and fast. Electric stop is standard on all our D-series engines.
