Engine options

Engine options - optimize your engine operation

Optimize your engine with engine options from Volvo Penta. Our broad scope of options are applicable in many types of applications in various environments. They include our warranties and can help reduce fuel consumption, noise levels, and foremost – maximize uptime and lower the total cost of ownership.

Withstanding the pressure

Heavy-duty package

Volvo Penta’s heavy-duty package is developed to withstand the challenges of working in extremely harsh and dusty work environments such as quarries, mines, construction, or agriculture. The package is a beneficial engine optimization and can be pre-assembled at the factory or ordered as an extra kit.

Cooling

The engine option, heavy-duty cooling, is built by placing the charge air cooler and the coolant radiator side by side, rather than in series. The wide fin spacing significantly reduces the risk of clogging and eases cleaning, which helps maintain cooling performance. The cooling withstands cleaning with high-pressure water, and suction and pusher-type cooling systems are available for all heavy-duty radiator units.

Air filter

Volvo Penta’s two-stage air filters are specifically designed for our industrial engines to withstand the dust and dirt from heavy-duty engine operations. The robust filter is developed to last and is protected against the rain by the enclosed cover.

Cable harness

Compared to standard cables, our heavy-duty cables are developed with a unique, braided shrink mesh design. The cables inside the tubing are practically immobile, even at high vibrations, and are made for applications operating in environments high on abrasive dust concentration. An innovative solution that decreases wear and tear on the inside and increases engine uptime.
Optimize your engine operation

Start/Stop

Enhance productivity and reduce fuel consumption, emissions, and noise levels with the easily integrated Start/Stop feature. It works by shutting down the engine during extended idle periods and turning it back on when the application resumes its operation again. This lets the aftertreatment system keep a better working temperature and efficient conversion in the SCR catalyst.

- Robust and reliable, developed and tested by Volvo Penta
- Adaptable to OEM and operator requirements
- Easy to install
- Favors the engine, after-treatment system, and battery lifetime
- Periodic full recharge of the battery
- Integrated into the ECU
- Diagnosed by Vodia service tool
- Covered by Volvo Penta’s standard two-year warranty
Less refuelling

Visco fan and fan hub

Volvo Penta’s Visco fan and fan hub use advanced technology to cool the industrial engine and control the fan speed. The hub is calibrated for each engine and ensures that the fan only operates when there is a need for cooling. By implementing this duo, the engine uses less energy to keep the temperature down – leading to more available horsepower, increased fuel efficiency, less noise, and improved driver comfort.
All vital information in one place

CIM panel

The easy-to-use CIM panel provides information about the engine's fuel consumption, RPM, temperature, and AdBlue®/DEF levels. The panel gives instant access to status updates and error code messages, and suggests appropriate actions. With the push of a button, it allows engine-shut-down and RPM control. The CIM panel can be mounted on the engine or a loose kit with interface cables.
