Volvo Penta’s Twin Forward Drive Recognized as a 2024 Top Product by Boating Industry

Annual feature showcases the newest and most innovative products and services to hit the marine market. Products are chosen based on their impact on the industry, innovativeness and how they advance the product category, or in some cases, create a new segment.

Volvo Penta’s Twin Forward Drive solution was honored in Boating Industry’s 2024 Top Products program. An extension of the company’s popular Forward Drive propulsion system, the latest iteration brings the watersports and leisure boating experience to bigger vessels – accommodating more people, power and fun.

By perfecting the blend of traditional sterndrives with the adrenaline rush of a purpose-built wakesport boat, Volvo Penta’s Forward Drive has become a popular solution in powering thousands of boats since its 2015 introduction. The new Twin Forward Drive merges the forward-facing, counter-rotating prop design with the perfectly matched Volvo Penta V8-400 hp gasoline engine. This equates to bigger wakes, additional passengers and more fun on the water.

“We are proud to be recognized for the advancement of our Forward Drive solution, which validates our philosophy that forward is the only way as we continue to advance in our mission to improve the boating experience and accessibility,” said Jens Bering, vice president of marine sales for Volvo Penta North America. “We are committed to welcome aboard the next generation of boating enthusiasts with the expansion of versatile solutions to ensure that everyone can enjoy their time on the water.”

Experience meets innovation

Twin Forward Drive incorporates a redesigned propulsion drive with a new size and hydrodynamic shape to accommodate its unique application. The powerful solution ensures that all the benefits of the Forward Drive – superior maneuverability and fuel efficiency, fast acceleration and time to plane, powerful thrust and performance, increased safety, low emission and noticeable onboard comfort – can now be applied to bigger boats.

The complete Twin Forward system includes improved high-speed stability and lower noise levels, and was optimized to create a more surfable wake, enhanced by an upgraded Watersports Control operating system. The innovative design also optimizes fuel consumption, providing customers with a more economical and environmentally friendly option.

“One thing that unites boaters is our love for nature and being out on the water,” said Bering. “By aligning solutions that help drive more versatility, we’re able to connect with boaters based on their unique interests while also allowing them to join their friends and family to relax and enjoy the surroundings together.”

Twin Forward Drive is available for boats up to 40 feet. The bigger, versatile design means more room for boaters to do what they love – whether wakesurfing, cruising, saltwater fishing, beaching up and more.

Boating Industry’s Top Products, which are selected by the editorial team, are showcased in the May 2024 issue and on the publication’s website.
