Volvo Penta and service provider Inboard Diesel Service (IDS) have been strengthening their partnership for more than three decades, collaborating to offer repair, maintenance and installation of diesel engines to the marine commercial and leisure industries. Now, they are expanding their reach even further throughout the Eastern Caribbean market.
Volvo Penta began a relationship with IDS shortly after it was established in 1989 in Martinique to service mainly the commercial fishing industry. The company has since strengthened its position with Volvo Penta and expanded to offer propulsion packages and engine installation, maintenance, parts sales, repairs and re-building services, and power generation to passenger transport vessels, charter and tour boats, yachts and commercial ferries.
IDS increased its territory when becoming an official Volvo Penta dealer in 2005 and has continued to develop its strategic role and strong footprint in the region, along with a vast knowledge of Volvo Penta propulsion and products that can be leveraged when working with other dealers throughout the Eastern Caribbean as a Power Center.
“Volvo Penta recognizes the critical role our Marine Power Centers play in keeping our customers on the water,” said Jens Berring, vice president of marine sales for Volvo Penta. “To support their success, we provide a comprehensive product range, parts distribution network, warranty and training that all support the Power Centers in their commitment to offering superior service to our dealers and customers. Together, we deliver value through a wide range of quality solutions for marine leisure and commercial offerings, along with an unmatched dedication to parts availability and accuracy, and the highest levels of customer service.”
IPS Professional Platform supports superyachts
With the introduction of the Volvo Penta IPS Professional Platform, IDS plans to extend its service offer to a new class of marine leisure vessels in 2025 and beyond. Superyacht customers often cruise the Eastern Caribbean during the winter season and require everything from routine maintenance to technical expertise in emergency situations on remote islands, says Frank Agren, CEO and founder of IDS.
IDS operates from Martinique, with fully equipped service facilities in Case-Pilote and Le Marin that house comprehensive tooling for after-sales support. Two service boats help minimize downtime for yachts as well as tour boat and passenger vessel operators throughout the region.
“Volvo Penta and IDS are both deeply dedicated to the marine industry,” said Agren. “Offering the best service is something we are passionate about, and I am proud of the strong network we have formed in the Eastern Caribbean. By becoming a Marine Power Center, we will be able to connect to many more islands and territories, as well as work with additional dealers to offer faster, more efficient service.”
