5 reasons to go for remanufactured engines

In any off-road application – whether you have had an emergency breakdown or plan to switch a diesel engine on a running machine – a remanufactured part might be the fast and sustainable option you’ve been looking for.

A remanufactured engine should not be confused with a repaired or rebuilt engine. It is basically the same as a brand-new part – but more sustainable, affordable and can often be delivered sooner.

Today, there are remanufactured parts for everything from turbochargers and diesel particulate filters to complete diesel engines. Here are five reasons why you should consider Volvo Penta Reman parts.

1. Reduce downtime with fast delivery
While new diesel engines need to be ordered and produced, a lot of remanufactured engines are already stocked in our warehouse, which makes them available for fast delivery when you need them. Since the materials are recycled, the availability of Reman parts is not vulnerable to sudden resource shortages. You seldom plan a breakdown but with a remanufactured part – and engines in particular – you can minimise the downtime and reduce lost revenue.

2. A remanufactured engine is a more sustainable alternative
By restoring and remanufacturing worn parts, a lot of energy and resources can be saved. On average, 85 per cent of the core is reused in the industrial process of remanufacturing, which greatly minimises the impact on the environment. It also saves up to 80 per cent of the energy it would otherwise take to manufacture a new part. External studies show that remanufacturing worldwide results in annual energy savings equal to the electricity generated by five nuclear plants.

3. Lower cost compared to a brand-new part
Instead of buying a new Genuine Volvo Part or spending time and money on repairs, remanufactured parts are more affordable. The Volvo Penta Reman System is based on a recycling programme where you return the worn component in return for a new Reman component. When buying a Reman component, a core fee will be added to the invoice. The core fee is refunded as soon as your worn component (the core) is returned – making the remanufactured part a lot more cost-effective than a new one.

4. As good as a new part
Thanks to rigorous processes and extensive testing, Volvo Penta’s remanufactured parts meet the same quality and technical requirements as new parts. The components are disassembled, cleaned, thoroughly inspected, and restored to a technically new condition. The remanufactured part always fulfils Volvo Penta’s latest technical specifications and with careful tests the product’s performance is verified.

5. Same quality equals the same warranty
In all aspects, Volvo Penta’s remanufactured parts are technically new and have the same quality, performance, and availability as a new part. This means that Volvo Reman parts also have the same 12-month warranty conditions as new Genuine Volvo Parts. If you have the part supplied and installed by an authorized Volvo Penta dealer your warranty will be extended to 24 months.
