For the past seven years, water sport enthusiasts from all over the world have come together on the third weekend of July in an effort to get more people out on the water. This movement, known as #PassTheHandle day, is an awareness-driven mission created by legendary wakeboarders Shaun Murray and Zane Schwenk. The goal is for experienced water sporters to encourage a first-timer to try out wakeboarding, wakesurfing, waterskiing, kneeboarding, or tubing, and then to share that experience on social media with the hash tag #PassTheHandle.
Without the support of the Water Sports Industry Association (WSIA), #PassTheHandle would not be what it is today. As the towed water sports industry’s leading advocate, WSIA embodies everything that #PassTheHandle stands for--developing best practices, educating participants, promoting safety, and facilitating sustainable industry growth. Since its founding year in 2014, #PassTheHandle has continued to grow thanks to organizations and companies taking the mission on as their own. “Our industry, including dealers and the passionate people that love to share the sport have been amazing in their efforts to support #PassTheHandle. It’s like nothing I have ever seen before,” says Pass the Handle founder, Zane Schwenk. Volvo Penta is proud to support this movement alongside the WSIA; our boating solutions are exactly what you need to get out on the water and #PassTheHandle.
Forward Drive
Volvo Penta makes it even easier for you to #PassTheHandle with the Volvo Penta Forward Drive. Uniquely engineered with forward-facing counter-rotating props that pull the boat through the water rather than pushing it, Forward Drive gives small-craft leisure boaters newfound levels of versatility, flexibility, and comfort.
Making Waves
When it comes to water sports, we know that an ideal wake is your top priority. With the Volvo Penta Water Sport Control, you can completely customize your waves using ballast, drive trim, and GPS based speed control. Whether you’re a beginner or have been perfecting your surf for some time, the Forward Drive is sure to deliver an improved ride. Experts have noted the offer’s ability to trim, with tighter and faster turns thanks to directional thrust. For more on how the propulsion system measures up with traditional V-drives, take a look at this story from Boating Magazine.
Ease of Use
Volvo Penta’s solutions are designed to make the boating experience as easy as possible, especially when it comes to water sports. Take a look at exactly how the Forward Drive will create an effortless experience for you on the water.
Maximum Comfort
Many factors collide to maximize comfort onboard, starting with the placement of the drive. The Forward Drive has been strategically positioned under the boat and set back from the stern, equating to less noise and exhaust levels. Not only does the soundless and seamless gear shifting add to overall comfort, but the forward-facing propellers and placement of the drive unit also help to increase safety. Enjoy peace of mind as you surf, waterski, or swim behind the boat with Forward Drive.
