Easy Connect Questions and Answers | Volvo Penta UK & Ireland

To set up Easy Connect, ensure you are on the vessel. If you have Easy Connect Wi-Fi, ensure you have access to the internet.
1. Download and install the Easy Connect app, available on App Store and Google Play.
2. Make sure that Bluetooth® is enabled on your device.
3. Turn on the vessel's ignition.
4. Have the Easy Connect Bluetooth® code ready. It's printed on the Easy Connect Wi-Fi interface and on a sticker that came with the interface. The code can also be found in the Information Display or Glass Cockpit.
5. Open the app on your device.
• If your region does not allow the creation of a Volvo Penta ID, the app will now open.
• For more information on creating a Volvo Penta ID, refer to the ”Can I create a Volvo Penta ID?” in the online FAQ*.

If you are a dealer, or if you are installing the interface for someone else on your personal device and not the vessel owner's device, select ”Continue as guest”. The vessel owner will also need the Bluetooth code to connect the vessel and set up the Wi-Fi connection.

6. Tap 'Sign in'
7. Sign in to an existing account or create a new account. Tap 'Continue' to allow browser access.
8. The first time you run the app, you need to add your vessel. Tap 'Add vessel' to set up your vessel. Enter details and 'Save'.
9. In the Vessel Connections list, select your Easy Connect interface, and enter the Bluetooth® code to pair your device.

• If you see multiple numbers in the Vessel Connections list, select your serial number.
• If you have connected to your vessel before, it may not ask for the Easy Connect Bluetooth® code.

10. If the vessel does not have an EVC system or has an old EVC generation, you will be prompted to select the installation type and enter chassis IDs for all drivelines.
11. The basic vessel setup is now complete.
• Easy Connect is dependent on your mobile device being on board.
• To enable all features, and for a better experience, connect the interface to your vessels onboard Wi-Fi. This is only applicable for the Easy Connect Wi-Fi interface.

12. To connect to your vessel’s Wi-Fi network, make sure that the following is done before you continue:

• A router is installed onboard. It needs to be WPA2 compatible and allow a 2.4 GHz connection.
• The vessel router network is neither public nor enterprise.
• Your mobile device is connected to the network provided by the router.
• Keep the ignition turned on for all drivelines during the entire procedure.

13. Tap 'Continue' and follow the instructions on your device.

The Easy Connect Bluetooth® code can be found:
- On the Easy Connect interface label.
- On a sticker that came with the Easy Connect box. If you didn't install Easy Connect yourself, this sticker might have been placed in your vessel for easy access, so you don't need to dismount components.
- If you are already connected, you can see the code in the app under 'Vessel details'.
- If your EVC system is updated, the Easy Connect Bluetooth® code can be found in your Volvo Penta Information Display or Glass Cockpit.

Many vessels from 2018 and onwards have the Easy Connect Interface without owners knowing. To find out if you have it, turn on the ignition, go to your mobile Bluetooth® settings and search for new devices. If you see a device named ECW followed by 8 digits, then you have Easy Connect Wi-Fi. If you see a device with NMEA2000 Easy Connect in the name, then you have a previous Easy Connect Bluetooth® interface without the Wi-Fi capability. Please note: Do not connect to the Easy Connect app here. Instead, download the Volvo Penta Easy Connect app and follow the instructions there.

To update the Easy Connect interface, make sure that the Easy Connect app is connected to the Easy Connect interface via Bluetooth®. Next, go to the alerts view. If there is an available software update you will find it in the list of alerts. Before starting the update, make sure the boat is safely moored, the engines are turned off and the ignition is on. When the update is complete, power cycle the Easy Connect interface to apply the new changes. Power cycle is only applicable if your vessel has the previous Easy Connect Bluetooth interface installed.

Bluetooth® is not switched on in your mobile device or there is interference in the Bluetooth® communication.

First, make sure to be within Bluetooth® range from the Easy Connect interface. Check the Bluetooth® communication*.
For Android: If your Easy Connect interface is not being displayed, go to your mobile device settings, choose 'Apps' and then 'Easy Connect'. Here, you go to 'Permissions' and turn on location and storage.

If still not connected try to:
- Restart the app
- Restart your mobile device
- Power cycle the Easy Connect interface

Connection indication is given in the app by icons displayed in the 'Home' view. You can also check Bluetooth® connection by going to 'Settings' > 'Vessel details' > 'Easy Connect interface'. Indication is also given by LED lights on the Easy Connect interface. See “What do the LED-lights on the Easy Connect Interface mean?” under Diagnostics/Troubleshooting for more information.

If no maintenance history is found, make sure you've done the below:
- You are logged in with a Volvo Penta account.
- Your mobile device is connected to internet.
- Service activities have been performed by an authorized Volvo Penta dealer.
- Service activities have been registered by the Volvo Penta dealer in Product Center.

Volvo Penta Easy Connect Wi-Fi provides valuable functionalities for a vessel owner, such as vessel and engine data monitoring, route information, alerts and more. It links your vessel and engine/s via Bluetooth® and Wi-Fi to your smartphone or tablet as well as to the Volvo Penta cloud.

Volvo Penta Easy Connect consists of at least three main parts: the Easy Connect Wi-Fi interface, onboard router and the Easy Connect app.

The Easy Connect Interface is a hardware that must be installed in your vessel in order to enable the Easy Connect app services. It connects the vessel and engine/s to a mobile device via Bluetooth®. If it is connected to a router with a Wi-Fi network, it will also communicate via Wi-Fi between the interface and the mobile device.

The Easy Connect interface also includes NMEA2000 functionality. This means it can also be connected to an existing NMEA network within the boat. This enables you to access additional data from speed and depth sensors, for example. In addition, the Easy Connect interface can be used to convert engine data into NMEA2000 compatible chart plotters and multi-function displays onboard.

If you have the older version of the Easy Connect interface that does not support Wi-Fi connectivity, you will have access to the basic Easy Connect services but will miss out on some other, newer key features. Easy Connect Wi-Fi Interface can be purchased from any Volvo Penta dealer.

The Easy Connect app is capable of showing data provided by your engine, as well as information from additional sensors and functionality installed in your vessel, all depending on installation. If your vessel is set up and connected with a Wi-Fi network, some of the below data can be part of a remote (offboard) service, depending on your installation.

The Volvo Penta cloud is a server that enables the synchronization of data displayed in the app 'Home' view and the 'Journeys' view. It enables the synching of data between phones/tablets when signed in on multiple devices. The 'Home' view data includes engine hours, tank levels, depth, engine battery voltage, and active corrosion protection state. The 'Journeys' data includes fuel consumption, time, route and distance. In addition, other vessel information, app settings, dealer e-mail addresses and user information are synchronized between phones/tablets. If you wish to keep more than 30 hours of journey data, you will need to store data in the cloud through a Volvo Penta ID.

You can find diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) in the 'Alerts' view, at the top right corner in the app. Tap the 'Send to Dealer' button to send all diagnostic trouble codes in the view, or go to the 'Alert details' and tap the same button in that view to only send a single DTC. Information about your installation such as serial number and engine hours will also be shared.

Access to the Internet is required to send the information. Volvo Penta recommends that you contact your selected dealer before sharing diagnostic trouble codes. Please note that diagnostic trouble codes are not available for engines with MDI, EVC A, B, C1 and C2.

Make sure your Volvo Penta ID and e-mail address in the app is correct and that you've agreed to the consent of sharing data with your dealer.

If you are onboard, make sure your phone/tablet is connected by checking the Bluetooth® communication icon indication in the Easy Connect app 'Home' view. You can also check 'Settings' > 'My Vessel' > 'Vessel Details' > 'Easy Connect interface' to view connection status.

If you are offboard, please note that all data is not available when you are offboard. Please read the question "What data can Easy Connect show?" to understand what data may or may not be part of our remote services.

For Easy Connect Bluetooth interface:

There are two LEDs on the Easy Connect Interface – one green and one blue.
- The green LED is lit constantly – the device has power but no communication either to the NMEA or the EVC/engine.
- The green LED flashes twice and then off (500 ms), flashes twice then off – the device has power and communicates with the EVC/engine but not to the NMEA.
- The green LED flashes three times and then off (500 ms), flashes three times then off – the device has power and communications with the NMEA but not with the EVC/engine.
- The green LED flashes at regular intervals – the device has power and communication with both NMEA and the EVC/engine.
- The blue LED is not lit – the Bluetooth® device (chip) interface is not working.
- The blue LED is lit constantly – the Bluetooth® interface is not connected with the app.
- The blue LED flashes twice and then off (500 ms), blinks twice then off – there is a problem with Bluetooth® communication between interface and the app.
- The blue LED flashes regularly – the interface and the app are connected and working.

Connection status is also indicated with icons in the 'Home' view.

Yes, you can view the vessel's connection status in the 'Home' view. Here, you will see the latest known signal value together with a time stamp, if any signal value was ever received by the app. If not, dashes will display instead of values.

In the 'Gauge' view, if you lose connection with NMEA/Engine/EVC you will notice that affected signal gauges will display dashes instead of values, even though the vessel is connected to Bluetooth®/Wi-Fi.

Make sure mobile device settings for Bluetooth®, Location and Wi-Fi are enabled. In the app, check for any available software updates for the Easy Connect interface. Go to the Alerts view or 'Settings' > 'My Vessel: Vessel Details' > 'Easy Connect interface software'. Before executing the software update, ensure you are connected to the Easy Connect interface via Bluetooth® and Wi-Fi (if you have the Easy Connect Wi-Fi interface installed).

Yes, the last 30 hours of journeys are stored in the Easy Connect interface when you don’t have a phone/tablet connected to the Easy Connect interface. When you connect your phone/tablet and you are connected to the Volvo Penta Cloud, you will start to transfer the journeys from the Easy Connect interface to the Volvo Penta Cloud via Wi-Fi (if the vessel is set up with Wi-Fi) or through your phone/tablet (if the vessel is not set up with Wi-Fi).

For Easy Connect Wi-Fi interface:

Before handing over a vessel to a new owner, the Easy Connect Wi-Fi interface must be factory reset. Make sure you are onboard the vessel and connected to the Easy Connect interface. Go to 'Settings' > 'Vessel details' > 'Factory reset'.
It will remove all data stored on the Easy Connect Wi-Fi interface and the connection to the current user account.
Data stored in the cloud for your account will not be affected.
After resetting the hardware, you can reconnect to it with the same or another user account.
For Easy Connect interface (only Bluetooth):
To make sure that none of your data is stored on the Easy Connect interface, connect your phone/tablet to the Easy Connect interface one last time and check that no Journeys are buffering. If so, wait to make sure they are transferred to your phone/tablet (it can take up to 20 minutes). Go to 'Settings' > 'Vessel details' > 'Easy Connect Settings' > 'Clear Easy Connect interface journeys'.

For Easy Connect Wi-Fi interface:
If you get an account conflict message when adding the vessel to the app, you must perform a Factory reset to clear the Easy Connect interface. For further information, see the answer to "Why do I get an Account conflict when trying to add my vessel to the app?"

For Easy Connect (only Bluetooth®) interface:
When you are connected for the first time, make sure no journeys are stored in the Easy Connect interface. To clear the journey history in the Easy Connect interface, go to 'Settings' > 'Vessel details' > 'Easy Connect Settings' and select 'Clear Easy Connect interface journeys'.

Yes, if they have access to your Easy Connect Interface Bluetooth® code and are within Bluetooth® range. Also, if you are connected to the same Volvo Penta ID, you can access the same data.
If someone else uses the app as a guest user and connects to your boat, they can make configuration changes to your vessel. For further information, see the answer to "Can I share my Bluetooth® code with other users?"

When you are signed in with a Volvo Penta account:
- If your Easy Connect Wi-Fi interface is set up with a Wi-Fi network, data will continuously be synched to your phone/tablet via the cloud even while you are offboard.
- If you are onboard and connected to the vessel via Bluetooth®/Wi-Fi with your phone or tablet, data will be transmitted directly between the Easy Connect interface and the mobile device. If your vessel does not have onboard Wi-Fi configured, you need an internet connection on your phone or tablet for the data to be synched to the cloud.

When you are signed in as a Guest:
If you are connected to the Easy Connect interface via Bluetooth®/Wi-Fi onboard the vessel, data will be transmitted directly between the Easy Connect interface and the mobile device. No data is synched to the cloud since you are not connected to any Volvo Penta ID. The journeys performed as an onboard guest user are buffered in the Easy Connect interface. The journeys will only be synched to the cloud if the guest user signs in to a Volvo Penta account from the same mobile device.
