Volvo Penta gains a Special Mention for its Joystick for Inboard Shaft at METSTRADE, the world’s largest trade show for equipment in the marine leisure industry. The commendation in the DAME Design Awards is in the category of ‘machinery, propulsion, mechanical and electrical systems and fittings’. The company is also delighted to receive nominations for two other awards.
Volvo Penta is pleased to begin its exhibition at METSTRADE by receiving a Special Mention for its Joystick for Inboard Shaft. The company was nominated for another DAME Design Award at the show in Amsterdam for its Battery Management System with e-Key Remote. Volvo Penta has also been nominated for a collaborative Boat Builder Award with Amer Yachts, in recognition of the use of Volvo Penta’s Inboard Performance System (IPS) in the Amer 100 – the largest superyacht in the world to be equipped with IPS.
“It’s exciting to be exhibiting at METSTRADE once again,” says Anders Thorin, Volvo Penta’s electronics project planning manager. “We’ve worked hard at developing new innovative products that are safe and simple to use and make boating even more enjoyable. And we’re extremely proud to receive the Special Mention for our Joystick for Inboard Shaft and to be nominated for two other awards.

Latest innovations
The company’s Joystick for Inboard Shaft co-ordinates the rudders, engine, gearbox and thrusters – providing superior driving and docking capabilities.
Instead of performing complicated shift, throttle and steering wheel combinations, drivers can just move the joystick in the desired direction and the boat will respond accordingly. Joystick for Inboard Shaft received a Special Mention in the Dame Design Awards’ category of ‘machinery, propulsion, mechanical and electrical systems and fittings’.
Volvo Penta’s Battery Management System is a fully integrated solution for monitoring, managing and maintaining a boat’s batteries; it features the industry’s first e-Key Remote – a control fob that works like a car-key. The system offers unprecedented control and security, and is easy to install. It was nominated for a DAME Design Award in the category of ‘marine electronics and marine-related software’.
Building on more than a decade of success since first introducing the IPS, Volvo Penta has expanded this revolutionary product range through the introduction of the D8-IPS700 and D8-IPS800. With this addition to the range, Volvo Penta is extending the benefits of IPS to an even greater variety of boats.
