The new D4/D6 range from Volvo Penta – compliant with strict Tier 3 demands
The new limitations of emission standards put increased demands on marine engine manufacturers. Now, Volvo Penta’s world-leading D4/D6-series is compliant with Tier 3, the world’s strictest environmental demands for diesel engines for marine use. The upgrade has resulted in an engine range with less environmental impact – without ever compromising Volvo Penta’s classic driveability.
Ever since their introduction on the market in 2003, the D4/D6 engines have undergone a wide range of upgrades, updates and improvements, from the IPS integration to Joystick with sterndrive.
The D4/D6 has now been developed and updated even further and been adapted in order to be compliant – by a broad margin – with the new EPS emission standards, Tier 3, that take effect in January 2013.
The new D4/D6
The updated engines of the D4/D6 range have been equipped with a new piston design and new engine control software, resulting in an optimised combustion strategy. The engines have also been fitted with a temperature sensor with an alarm function for the loss of cooling water (ABYC-sensor).
The entire product range is fully integrated with Volvo Penta’s electronic platform (EVC). Moreover, a new top, which follows the comprehensive design principles of Volvo Penta products, has been added. Summing up, the new D4/D6 range is a more modern engine that reduces environmental impact and is compliant with the tough Tier 3 requirements – without ever compromising the joy of driving.
