Marine Engineering Advanced Apprenticeship

This qualification highlights the scope and opportunities in the marine industry, developing transferable skills across production, manufacturing and service sectors. It focuses on marine processes and principles to support learners in installing, maintaining, fault-finding and repairing marine engines and systems. The course spans four years, covering both foundation and advanced levels.

 

Level 2:
Unit 201 – Introduction to the Marine Industry
Unit 203 – Business Improvement Techniques
Unit 208 – Marine Engineering Processes and Principles
Unit 209 – Servicing and Maintenance of Marine Engines and Ancillary Systems
Unit 210 – Servicing and Maintenance of Marine Propulsion Systems

Level 3:
Unit 203 – Business Improvement Techniques
Unit 351 – Safe and Effective Working in the Marine Industry
Unit 352 – Principles of Marine Construction and Components 
Unit 353 – Installation and Repair of Vessel Services
Unit 354 – Installation, Fault Diagnosis and Repair of Marine Engines
Unit 355 – Installation and Repair of Marine Propulsion Systems

Working in a Volvo Penta dealership

To join this apprenticeship, you must be employed by an authorised Volvo Penta dealer, where you'll receive hands-on training with a mentor while supporting the business. Contact your local dealer to check for apprenticeship opportunities using our Dealer locator to find your nearest location.

Residential Training
Training takes place in 10-day blocks at Bournemouth and Poole College (Poole Campus, North Road, BH14 0LS), alongside other Volvo Penta apprentices. Accommodation is provided for those not local and you will travel to the college daily from your accodamodation.

Volvo Penta specific training
Additional training at Volvo Penta’s UK & Ireland HQ covers advanced topics like propulsion systems, diagnostics, service, maintenance, installation and repair.
Bournemouth & Poole College

Volvo Penta Marine Training Partner

Based at Bournemouth & Poole College, the fully equipped workshops allow you to work on the latest Volvo Penta Marine engines, drivelines and propulsion systems, with the most up to date equipment and tools.
 
The marine industry is constantly changing and we are committed to giving you an innovative training programme that keeps up with them. That is why your lecturers always have the latest knowledge on our products, to enhance your training experience.
